FAQs

Q:  What is a Climate Action Plan?

A:  A Climate Action Plan is a document that offers a framework for making the City more sustainable by addressing the energy, transportation/ land-use (these are tied closely together), solid waste (reduce-reuse-recycle), water, and agricultural related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions sources.  This document provides actions for each of these sectors to take to reduce GHG emissions (gases suspected in causing climate change).

Q: Why do we need to do this?

A:  The City of Gilroy is going through this process because we believe this will help enhance Gilroy’s competitive position as a healthy and resilient place to live, work, shop, and recreate.  Through the CAP, Gilroy will chart a course for responsible development as a unique community blessed with great people and a fertile place.

Q:  How long is this process?

A:  This project is scheduled to be completed in late 2011, depending on any unforseen delays.

Q:  How will the City use the community's feedback?

A:  Feedback from community workshops, targeted outreach meetings and key information from existing City policy documents and other initiatives are informing development of a draft Climate Action Plan.  We encourage you to sign up on our eNews list to stay informed about this project and to recieve updates regarding important community events regarding the CAP process.
