Gilroy CAP Workshop One A Success!

October 12th, 2010

The first Gilroy CAP Workshop on October 9th was attended by a small group of residents and supporters of the CAP effort as well as local vendors and non-profit agencies. The first of two CAP Workshops, this event allowed the public to weigh in on the preliminary CAP Measures and to share ideas about how to make Gilroy a more sustainable City. The agenda included presentations by local supporters of the CAP, an introduction to the CAP process in Gilroy, and evaluation of the preliminary CAP measures.

Workshop Overview
You are invited to the City of Gilroy’s Climate Action Plan (CAP), Public Workshop, which is the first workshop in the CAP process, and your first opportunity to provide input into this exciting project. At this workshop, we will introduce you to the CAP process, ask you to provide feedback on how the City should prioritize measures for inclusion into the Climate Action Plan, and hold a panel discussion of local organizations that are helping Gilroy become more sustainable. It is important for you to participate in this event!

What is the Gilroy Climate Action Plan?
Gilroy’s CAP will provide a roadmap for achieving measurable reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, both throughout the community and in City government operations. The CAP will verify GHG emission sources and quantities, establish GHG reduction targets and other environmental goals that align with State regulations, and establish an implementable plan that will help Gilroy become more sustainable. We need your ideas and feedback to create this plan!

Progress to Date
We have completed a municipal and community-wide greenhouse gas (GHG) emission inventory, drafted the preliminary CAP measures list, and met with City staff and consultant team to review the preliminary draft CAP measures. We now need the public’s input regarding these measures!

Gilroy Kicks Off Climate Action Plan

June 23rd, 2010

Following the selection of our consultants in June, the City of Gilroy kicked off its Climate Action Plan (CAP) on Wednesday, June 23rd and is now in the process of gathering data for the consultants, updating the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory, establishing a Stakeholder Advisory Committee, and drafting the preliminary schedule for key dates and events for this project. City of Gilroy Recieves Funding For Climate Action Plan

In 2009, the Gilroy City Council accepted a U.S. Department of Energy Grant to fund preparation of a climate action plan. Gilroy’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) will provide a roadmap for achieving measurable reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, both throughout the community and in City government operations.
